Save the Arctic and the Planet

Ice caps melt and glaciers raise sea level. Climate change is a latent environmental threat to the ecosystem.

Heat waves, fires, hurricanes, storms and droughts increase in the world, due to global warming of the planet.

This situation arises from the emission of greenhouse gases, which are produced when fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas are burned.

‘Greenpeace’ and close to 200 countries consider that it is necessary to “reduce carbon dioxide emissions to avoid the worst effects of climate change, as close to zero by 2050”.

Likewise, “replace dirty energy sources with renewable ones; such as solar, wind, etc. Promote savings, energy efficiency, and set the planet’s temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5ºC”.

For this, it is relevant that sustainable initiatives are adopted in the different countries. In addition, reduce air pollution, deforestation, seismic explosions, industrial fishing and hydraulic drilling in the subsoil.

Also, protect the Arctic glacier, because it keeps the planet cool and works like a global air conditioner. However, currently 3/4 parts of its floating ice cap have disappeared.

Humanity and species are at risk, for this reason Greenpeace proposes to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Northeast Atlantic – OSPAR to create a global sanctuary in the Arctic.

The purpose is to protect the glacier from pollution, industrial exploitation and maritime traffic. As well as polar bears, narwhals, foxes, reindeer, orcas and whales.

There is still time to reverse the serious effects of pollution, caring for nature and protecting the Arctic, be part of the change.
