1898: the ‘first transatlantic cable in the world’ is laid, which issues the first telegram in history two days later.

1538: Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada founds ‘Santa Fe de Bogota’. The city, the capital of Colombia, which is currently called ‘Bogota’, commemorates his anniversary on this day.
August 7th
1819: the ‘Battle of Boyacá’ that affirmed the independence of Colombia is commemorated.
August 8th
2013: Fernando Londoño, precursor of radio and television in Colombia, dies.
