The mythical town of Macondo, among curse, oblivion and wonder, will be on display to the world with the acclaimed series.
Seven generations of the ancestral Buendia family are evoked in an adaptation based on the novel of the same name by Nobel Prize winner for Literature Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
The Colombian writer who gave life in 1967 to a work full of charm and magical realism is released for the first time in audiovisual format.
The series was directed by Alex Garcia Lopez and Laura Mora, produced by Dynamo and distributed by Netflix.
“One Hundred Years of Solitude” premieres on December 11th, 2024 to reveal an impressive world where its inhabitants struggle with their destiny.
Synopsis
“When they marry against their parents’ will, cousins Jose Arcadio Buendia and Ursula Iguaran leave their town behind and embark on a long journey in search of a new home.
Accompanied by friends and adventurers, their journey culminates with the founding of a utopian town on the banks of a river of prehistoric stones that they name Macondo.
Several generations of the Buendia family will mark the future of this mythical town, tormented by madness, impossible loves, a bloody and absurd war.
In addition, the fear of a terrible curse that condemns them, without any hope, to one hundred years of solitude.”
Production
Netflix acquired the rights in 2019.
The film was made with the authorization of Garcia Marquez’s family, who requested that the production be in Colombia with Colombian actors and in Spanish.
It was filmed from May to December 2023 in Colombia where several places were visited such as La Guajira, Magdalena, Cesar, Cundinamarca and Tolima.
The fictional town of Macondo was adapted near Ibague, Colombia where four versions of the place were built to show the passage of time.
The series represents one of the most ambitious audiovisual projects in the history of Latin America.
