Sara The Force of The Sea in movie theaters

Colombia releases a film about a suffocating and monotonous life that finds a path to freedom and self-discovery.

Sara, a woman trapped between her routine as a judge and an oppressive marriage, finds a new world full of possibilities through a trip to the sea.

In an emotional journey, she as the protagonist challenges conventions to find her true voice and inner freedom.

In this way, she faces her own demons and makes brave decisions that allow her to discover the true meaning of life, love and justice.

“Sara the Force of the Sea” is directed by Martin Agudelo, co-directed by Andres Ricaurte and starring Giselle Villada, Sebastian Gomez and Felipe Giraldo.

In addition, actors from the theater participate, along with Andres Restrepo, who filmed this last film, after later dying from Covid-19.

Interview with Directors

Martin Agudelo and Andres Ricaurte, the directors of the film Sara the force of the Sea, tell us what its plot is, how its story came about, what the biggest challenges were in making the film and how it was recorded and edited.

 

*Martin Agudelo Ramirez

“Lawyer, philosopher, theologian, teacher, film director and magistrate in the Medellin’s Civil Chamber of the Superior Court.

He combines his work with his audiovisual passion, a world that he began to approach with the production of educational documentaries.

He has evolved to the creation of works of fiction such as “Triptych of a Missing Lady” (2017), “A Guardian in the Mirror” (2018) and “A Way for Thomas” (2019).

“Sara the Force of the Sea” is his debut feature and the third production he makes co-directed by Andres Ricaurte.

Agudelo Ramirez has also written 3 books such as The Problem of the Foundation of Human Rights (2011).

Cinema and Armed Conflict in Colombia (2016) and Alan Moore: Legal, Political and Moral Dilemmas from the Graphic Novel and Cinema (2021)”.

 

*Andres Ricaurte Munera

“Technologist in Film and Television Production, passionate about telling the stories that live in every being and corner, aware of the power of the screen and the process of living.

He has directed audiovisual projects such as the short films “A Guardian Before the Mirror” in 2018 and “A Way for Tomas” in 2019.

“Sara the Force of the Sea” is his debut feature, co-directed with Martin Agudelo Ramirez and produced by Punto 8 Audiovisual.

Ricaurte has directed more than 150 video clips for artists of various musical genres and participated in different film projects in various departments of the country.

Currently, directors Andres Ricaurte and Martin Agudelo are in the process of creating the script for their second feature film together: ‘Light in the sunset’.”

 

Recording

The film was recorded over 18 days in locations in Medellin and Uraba, Antioquia where it captures the beauty of the landscapes of Necocli, San Juan de Uraba and Arboletes.

It had the participation of more than 100 people including actors, production and technical team and had more than 100 shots with visual effects.

 

Music

It includes bullerengue by the group El Totumo Encantado and compositions by La Banda del Bisonte in collaboration with the Asian composer Flora Cheng.

Their sounds combine and highlight part of the folklore of the coasts of Antioquia.

 

Festivals and Awards

Produced by Punto 8 Entertainment and distributed by La Alucinante Fabrica, Sara the Force of the Sea has received several distinctions and recognitions. Among them:

*Official Selection of the Sunscreen Film Festival in Tampa FL, USA (2024).

*Official Selection of the Salerno Film Festival, Italy (2023).

*Official Selection of the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival (TINFF) (2024).

*Award for Best Film in Spanish/Latin at the Chandler International Film Festival, Arizona, USA (2024).

* Honorable mention for Production Design and Best Screenplay at the Uruguay Latin Film Festival (2023).

 

After its premiere in Colombia, the film will be presented at different film festivals with screenings planned in countries such as Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, among others.
